Latin Graduation Honors
For full information on Undergraduate Latin Honors, please refer to the Undergraduate Course Catalog, under "Academic Regulations". The information offered below is a brief overview.
There are three requirements that must be satisfied for Latin Honors:
- GPA of 3.4 or above (see table below)
- Minimum of sixty (60) Utica University credit hours completed in residence (Any courses that a student has opted to take in a pass/fail mode (instead of the standard letter grade) will not count toward the sixty credits)
- Minimum of thirty six (36) credits at the 300- or 400-level
Second degree candidates are eligible provided they have carried sixty hours of additional Utica University credit in their second degree program.
Graduation honors are computed on the basis of Utica University credit alone. Courses transferred from another institution, whether they are taken prior to admission or while a student is at Utica University, satisfy graduation requirements but are excluded from calculations of cumulative or program-specific Grade Point Averages.
The Latin Honors are as follows:
Cum Laude | 3.4-3.59 |
Magna Cum Laude | 3.6-3.79 |
Summa Cum Laude | 3.8-4.0 |
Students earning Latin Honors will be given a gold-colored tassel at the Commencement ceremony and their transcript and diploma will have the honor printed on it.
